Leaders at Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac detailed how Bill Pulte, director of the Federal Housing Finance Agency and new chairman at the GSEs, is influencing activity at the companies.

Trump noted that Fannie and Freddie are “doing very well and throwing off a lot of CASH.”

The pilot survived as the Trump administration ended a number of pilot programs at the GSEs in recent months.

Freddie is touting the use of machine learning in LPA and cost savings for lenders.

“I think we’ve referred five or six different people to the DOJ, just in terms of Chinese and North Koreans working in the companies,” Pulte said.

Recent comments by the FHFA director suggest the Trump administration has no immediate plans to release Fannie and Freddie from conservatorship. Rather, FHFA will continue to focus on fraud and abuse at the enterprises.

FHFA Director Bill Pulte didn't participate in Freddie's first-quarter earnings call, as he did for Fannie's on Wednesday, but his presence was felt.

There was also a slight year-over-year decline in Fannie servicing.

Since he was appointed by President Trump as FHFA’s leader, Pulte has revamped board membership at the GSEs and fired Freddie’s CEO.

Because they’re currently in conservatorship, S&P still rates GSE senior debt as if it were the sovereign credit of the U.S., at AA+.
