PNC Bank, now the top FHLBank borrower, ended the second quarter with $40.42 billion in outstanding advances, more than doubling its total from the end of March.
The effort aims to “address crucial workplace and mission needs by eliminating redundancies, streamlining and increasing flexibility in work processes and consolidating administrative functions.”
Among the 333 banks and thrifts that report mortgage-banking income on call reports, income declined by 6.1% on an annual basis in the first half of 2026.
“Market sentiment was leaning toward a rate hike at the next Fed meeting, but this could give the Fed pause in hiking rates as they look to convene this month,” said Cody Echols, a capital markets technology advisor at Mortgage Capital Trading.
Although investors would own just one listed security, Fannie and Freddie “could maintain separate underwriting, pricing, credit and customer service decisions,” according to Jon Oksenholt, the eponymous founder of Oksenholt Capital Management.
