Non-Agency MBS Issuance Rebounded in 3Q16, But Remained Well Off the Pace Set in 2015

A total of $12.41 billion of non-agency MBS were issued during the third quarter of 2016, according to a new Inside MBS & ABS analysis, but the market continued to rely heavily on a mix of recycled collateral and niche transactions. Overall issuance was up 78.3 percent from the second quarter, including big gains in prime MBS production and re-securitization deals. The Structured Finance Industry Group is preparing to publish standards that aim to increase transparency for representations and warranties on new non-agency MBS, according to officials at the trade group. RBS, State Of Connecticut Reach $120 Million Settlement Agreement over Legacy RMBS

RBS Securities has agreed to pay $120 million to the state of Connecticut to resolve an investigation into its underwriting of residential MBS shortly before the 2008 collapse of the financial markets. Private mortgage insurers are quietly gaining ground on their government-insured rivals in the critical home-purchase market, according to a new Inside Mortgage Trends analysis of agency mortgage-backed securities data.
