Ginnie President Alanna McCargo is confident nonbanks will be able to meet pending capital requirements.

If the U.S. defaults on its debts, Ginnie could still guarantee MBS and investors would still receive proceeds from the securities.

While correspondent sales of FHA/VA loans declined in 2022, Veterans United increased its sales volume.

The amount of Ginnie servicing volume outstanding increased by 1.6% in the first quarter while Lakeview's portfolio grew by 3.4%.

“There’s nothing like being in a room and being able to discuss what are the hiccups, where from a policy standpoint can we do better,” said John Bell, executive director of the VA loan guaranty program.

The retail channel's share of FHA/VA lending declined from nearly 50% in 2021 to 36.2% in 2022.

Issuers are largely meeting Ginnie's capital requirements, though liquidity remains a concern.

Most of the increase in the Ginnie delinquency rate was on the FHA side.
