Banks and thrifts can use outsourcing to restructure their balance sheet away from residential mortgages, mortgage servicing rights and other lower-yielding assets and move to construction, multi-family loans and other higher-yield products. Outsourcing and divestiture may be the way to go. And they are becoming more pertinent in times of a refi bust.
