HUD Study Finds Little Bias, But Whites Still Have Edge

Most people inquiring about a mortgage loan get equal treatment from lenders, although tests for discrimination show situations where white applicants received better service than whites, according to a new study released by the Department of Housing and Urban Development. Conducted by the Urban Institute for HUD, the study “All Other Things Being Equal: A Paired Testing Study of Mortgage Lending” looked at how mortgage lenders in two metropolitan areas handled loan inquiries.
