Schumer’s Own Survey Finds Same Black, White Patterns

Conducting his own survey of New York City constituents, Sen. Charles Schumer, D-NY, has confirmed previous findings: black applicants are nearly twice as likely to be denied a conventional mortgage loan than equally situated whites. Schumer, who analyzed both census and 1998 Home Mortgage Disclosure Act data, discovered similarly disproportionate lending patterns in 12 neighborhoods in the Bronx, Brooklyn and Queens.
