Still recovering from a slump in investor confidence triggered by last week’s critical remarks from a Federal Reserve Bank president, Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac are now facing the unpleasant prospect of a new round of congressional hearings that will focus even more attention on the two government-sponsored enterprises and their relationship with Uncle Sam.
