Fannie Posts Surprise Growth in Portfolio Holdings in July: Will Freddie Follow Suit?

Despite speculation that Fannie Mae would have a tough time growing its mortgage portfolio given the high prices still found in the mortgage-backed securities market, the government-sponsored enterprise reported this week that its holdings grew by $2.78 billion – or 4.5 percent on an annualized basis – during July.
