A year and a half after Congress passed the Electronic Signatures in Global and National Commerce Act, few mortgages have been closed using electronic signatures. Mortgage experts generally agree that the technology to do electronic mortgages has existed for some time, but implementation has been hampered by security concerns, competing e-sign standards and a lack of acceptance by borrowers – and lenders.
