The record $980 billion in new mortgage originations posted by the industry in the second quarter of this year fattened loan production profits but continued to strain servicers’ ability to grow their business. According to a new analysis by Inside Mortgage Profitability, the top 30 lender/servicers in the business generated $841.5 billion in new mortgages during the second quarter, but managed to expand their servicing portfolios by $130.4 billion.
