The Bush administration has joined mortgage industry and financial services trade groups in backing federal standards for credit reporting practices and new protections against identity theft. A bipartisan bill has been introduced in the House that would make permanent the existing provision in the Fair Credit Reporting Act that preempts state laws on credit reporting practices. The Fair and Accurate Credit Transaction Act
