Congress is considering a number of bills pertaining to mortgages and homeownership, which include adjustable rate loan products, FHA downpayment calculations, predatory lending, affordable housing and assistance to first-time and low-income homebuyers. On April 23, Sen. Arlen Specter, R-PA, introduced S. 2230, which would allow the Department of Veterans Affairs to guarantee adjustable-rate mortgage loans as part of its loan guaranty program.
