Privatization may become the only option for Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to continue meeting ambitious earnings targets within the next few years, according to two analysts. "Our view is that something has got to give," said Peter Wallison, coordinator of the American Enterprise Institute’s financial deregulation program. "If I were counseling [Fannie and Freddie], I would say ‘you should start thinking about drawing up a plan for privatization that will pass Congress.’"
