Boosted by strong performance and record-breaking earnings, the top salaries at Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac jumped significantly during 2000. And in a break from the past, Freddie Mac last year came very close to matching – and in one case exceeding – the compensation paid by rival Fannie Mae.
