Apparently, the subprime market is a bit like the forbidden fruit for banks: despite warnings to stay away, they just can’t seem to help themselves. The latest example of that allure is Chase Manhattan Mortgage, which this week announced plans to purchase the mortgage unit of subprime lender Advanta.
