Fifth Third Bancorp has agreed to invest $3.2 million in Detroit ’s black neighborhoods to settle charges of redlining against a financial institution it acquired more than three years ago. The complaint involved alleged violations of the Fair Housing Act and the Equal Credit Opportunity Act. It is also the first lawsuit the Department of Justice has filed in which it focused on discriminatory commercial lending, rather than residential lending.
