Housing and Urban Development Secretary Mel Martinez last week called for voluntary, upfront disclosure and explanation of loan costs, including broker fees, to help consumers make informed credit decisions. Although voluntary in nature, the disclosure guidance is likely to become part of a broader regulatory reform of the Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act which Martinez hopes to finalize in six months.
