Rep. Jan Schakowsky, D-IL, gave mortgage lenders more to worry about by introducing comprehensive legislation to protect consumers from predatory lenders. Industry officials, however, say the measure is counter-productive and unworkable. The bill proposes, among other things, to expand the Home Mortgage Disclosure Act to track home loan rates by census tract, income, race, and gender to enable regulators to identify predatory lenders.
