Recent news reports suggesting that the Federal Home Loan Banks might soon secure the authority to issue mortgage-backed securities has whetted the appetite of investors and dealers looking for a source of new “agency” MBSs. But a number of obstacles – both political and administrative – must be cleared before the market starts seeing any FHLBank MBSs.
