Fannie Mae’s pledge to fund $2 trillion in new mortgages during the current decade as part of its “American Dream Commitment” is off to a booming start, the GSE reported this week. Just three years into the 10-year commitment, Fannie already has already funded more than $1.3 trillion in targeted loans. The program got a big boost from last year’s record-breaking mortgage origination climate as Fannie reported $670 billion in volume for 2002 alone.
