Community bankers have warned Congress not to move too quickly on two resolutions that would overturn the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency’s controversial preemption rule. Introduced by Sen. John Edwards, D-NC, S.J. Res. 31 and S.J. Res. 32 would nullify a rule implemented by the OCC in February that exempts national banks from most mortgage-related state and local consumer protection laws.
