A New York nonprofit is pilot testing a unique product that allows borrowers to protect their equity when home prices turn downward. Dubbed Home Equity Protection, the product was developed by the Neighborhood Reinvestment Corp. and is currently available, in a test backed by $5 million in federal funding, to borrowers in Syracuse as part of its Neighborworks initiative.
