Neighborhood Housing Services of Chicago has reported success with its refinance initiative. Since its inception last spring, the program has resulted in 20 loans. The NHS program differs from Fannie Mae’s refinance initiative in fundamental ways: the nonprofit actually originates and services the mortgage in-house. After 18 months of seasoning, the loan is sold to a participating lender, such as Household International.
