The government-sponsored enterprises are generating more benefits than costs for U.S. taxpayers, a new report by academic researchers suggests. But the report also raises warnings about the size and scale of Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac and the Federal Home Loan Bank system, cautioning that more attention should be paid to their activities.
