Thousands of potential borrowers barred previously by income caps on certain Freddie Mac affordable mortgage products may now qualify under the company’s latest initiative for central city dwellers. Higher-income borrowers in low- to moderate-income, minority census tracts who have less cash either for a downpayment, closing costs, or both, would benefit the most from Freddie Mac’s Aug. 13 decision to lift income limits on five affordable mortgage products.
