Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac are poised to take complete control of the residential mortgage market, destroying consumer choice and exposing taxpayers to risk, a watchdog group warned. "If [the government-sponsored enterprises] are not contained within their intended chartered mission, many private companies that do not enjoy government sponsorship will find it increasingly difficult to operate in any market segment that the GSEs choose to enter," warned FM Watch.
