Rep. Richard Baker said he is ready to use a government study citing the Office of Federal Housing Enterprise Oversight’s apparent lack of enforcement authority as a springboard for legislation that would strengthen oversight of the housing government-sponsored enterprises. Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac, however, are interpreting the same study to boost their contention that OFHEO, like banking regulators, has all the tools it needs to regulate effectively.
