Banking industry trade groups have returned fire in an escalating battle over regulatory proposals that would allow financial holding companies to get into the real estate business, including potentially lucrative bundled services arrangements that include mortgage origination. The National Association of Realtors early this year launched a holy war against what it described as "the big grab" by the banking industry to snare a significant chunk of the real estate brokerage and property management businesses.
