Lenders: Beware of worthless instruments that purport to eliminate consumer debt. Bogus financial drafts are still being presented for payments of debt at mortgage companies, banks, and thrifts despite repeated warnings by regulators, according to the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency. Regardless of how such instruments are titled or whether they appear authentic, they are not worth the paper they’re written on, the OCC said.
