The National Association of Mortgage Brokers has proposed a model statute requiring mandatory licensing and education for all “residential loan originators” and lending shop owners, including criminal background checks of applicants. The trade group said it will lobby individual states either to adopt the model statute or use it as a basis for improving consumer protection statutes.
