A new analysis of proprietary loan information submitted by Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac to their federal regulator suggests that the two government-sponsored enterprises are not yet “leading the industry” in terms of targeted mortgage activity. The Department of Housing and Urban Development has quietly released an extensive analysis of annual loan purchase information for 2000 provided to it by the GSEs.
