Community groups are calling on Congress to stop the Office of Thrift Supervision from merging compliance with safety and soundness reviews, a move they say could weaken enforcement of fair lending laws and the Community Reinvestment Act. The National Community Reinvestment Coalition said it will ask lawmakers to intervene on behalf of consumers who stand to lose if the OTS’ role of protecting consumers is diminished.
