The Alameda County Superior Court last month thwarted industry efforts to override Oakland’s comprehensive anti-predatory lending ordinances. Superior Court Judge James Richman rejected a petition filed by the American Financial Services Association to block the implementation of the measures. The AFSA has used the same legal strategy with some success in Philadelphia and DeKalb County, GA, where it stopped tough local anti-predatory lending measures from taking effect.
