Regulators are considering a plan that would require appraisers to have professional credentials before they can conduct appraisals for homebuyers seeking FHA-insured mortgages. The requirement is one of several measures being proposed by the Department of Housing and Urban Development to protect FHA homebuyers from falling prey to home mortgage fraud and to protect the FHA mortgage insurance fund.
