Proposed legislation to tighten oversight of Fannie and Freddie may have gotten new legs this week in the wake of Freddie Mac’s accounting belly flop and an explicit statement from Fed Chairman Alan Greenspan that he believes the two GSEs should register their securities with the Securities and Exchange Commission.
