In a serious blow to legislative efforts to strip Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac of their current exemptions from SEC requirements, the Office of Federal Housing Enterprise Oversight has indicated it is prepared to require SEC-like disclosure and registration from the two government-sponsored enterprises using its existing regulatory authority.
