GSE cheerleaders on Wall Street appear to be changing their tune this year as officials with the Bush administration continue to chip away at the historically cozy relationship between Uncle Sam and Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. Although Fannie and Freddie still enjoy favorable reviews from most market analysts in terms of their financial performance, there are new signs that so-called political risk to the GSEs has possibly reached a new high.
