While much of Washington is debating how to restructure the government’s oversight and regulation of GSEs, one group maintains the real solution is to completely privatize companies like Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac. The Shadow Financial Regulatory Committee, a group made up of academics and former policy markers, suggests it is a mistake to simply beef up regulation of the GSEs.
