Legislation that would eliminate the GSEs’ $2.25 billion line of credit to the U.S. Treasury was introduced in the House as we went to press this week. The bill, H.R. 5126, the Free Housing Market Enhancement Act, was introduced by Texas Republican Ron Paul and is aimed at eliminating the government’s obligation to provide funds to Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac and the Federal Home Loan Banks.
