It takes money, and apparently a lot of it, to wield the kind of political clout that Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac have in Washington and around the U.S. According to filings with the U.S. Secretary of the Senate’s Public Record Office, the two GSEs spent a record $13.26 million on lobbying last year. That was up from $12.12 million in 2000.
