House Democrats are floating a new predatory lending bill based on North Carolina’s landmark anti-abuse law. Introduced by North Carolina Reps. Brad Miller and Mel Watt, H.R. 3974, the “Prohibit Predatory Lending Act,” represents an effort to translate the features of the NC law passed in 1999 with broad support from the state’s industry and consumer groups into a national standard.
