The Office of the Comptroller of the Currency has issued an order exempting national banks from the Georgia Fair Lending Act. The decision, which came in response to a request filed in February by National City Corp., effectively levels the playing field for national banks and their operating units in Georgia, where the Office of Thrift Supervision long-ago issued a preemption for federally charted thrifts.
