Federal thrifts active in Georgia and New York appear to have won a reprieve from the states’ controversial predatory lending laws. In legal opinions issued last week, the Office of Thrift Supervision stated that the institutions it regulates are effectively exempt from both Georgia’s Fair Lending Act and a predatory lending law enacted last year in the Empire State.
