Lawmakers officially threw down the gauntlet against predatory lenders last week, with a package of 11 consumer protection bills that will form the backbone of a "consumer bill of rights." Spearheaded by New York Rep. John LaFalce, the senior Democrat on the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs, the package includes two bills aimed at abusive mortgage lenders.
