Critics of the Mortgage Bankers Association’s tiered approach to Real Estate Settlement Procedures Act regulatory reform say the proposal is nothing but a veiled attempt to regurgitate guaranteed mortgage packaging. Never mind that the MBA is saying that the mortgage industry might actually end up with a RESPA rule that provides only for a revised good-faith estimate and HUD-1 statement forms – the first tier of MBA’s proposal – for easier comparability and clarity.
