Freddie Mac recently announced it won’t release full-year 2005 financial results until May, raising questions about its ability to buy back some of its common shares and other uses it might make of the 30 percent capital surplus the company is carrying. The delay bumps the government-sponsored enterprise nearly a year off its initial filing schedule, and compromises the company’s ability to return to investors a significant amount of excess capital, currently estimated at roughly
