State predatory lending laws do not decrease subprime lending volumes and often lead to lower interest rates for borrowers, according to a new study by a consumer advocate. Published by the North Carolina-based Center for Responsible Lending, the study found that states that have implemented significant reforms generally reduced the number of loans with predatory terms, and states with the strongest laws saw the biggest gains in fighting predatory loans.
