The mortgage banking industry called for further study of a legislative proposal to expand the current 100-year flood plain and its related mandatory flood-insurance purchase requirement to a 500-year standard. Testifying before the Senate Committee on Banking, Housing and Urban Affairs this month, the Mortgage Bankers Association said it would not support any measure changing the current floodplain standard without a thorough assessment of its effects.
