Thrifts are holding more of their loans in portfolio and when they do securitize, they’re looking beyond Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac for investors, according to a recent survey by America’s Community Bankers. While institutions that portfolio all of their production are outnumbered two-to-one by thrifts that use the securities market, the community bankers that participated in the survey reported that about 66 percent of their production was held in portfolio in 2005.
